Create New Classification Record
As part of implementation, Maintenance Connection works with your organization to establish an efficient asset structure. During this process, Asset Classifications are typically defined and the hierarchy structure is established. Assets are then populated into the system based on these definitions.
Create a new classification record:
-
Choose between two options:
-
To create an asset classification, select Asset Classifications from the Filter in the List Pane.
-
To create an inventory classification, select Inventory Classifications from the Filter in the List Pane.
-
-
Choose between three options:
-
Create a classification with a preexisting parent:
-
Locate the parent record for the new classification in the List pane.
-
Right-click the parent and select Add Classification….
A blank new classification record opens in the Work Center, with the parent already designated.
-
-
Use the New button:
-
Click the down arrow next to the New button.
-
Select Classification from the Module menu.
-
-
From the Classification Work Center Home, click the Create New Classification link.
-
-
Choose one of the following options:
-
If the parent was designated in step 2, proceed to step 4.
-
Click and drag the parent from the Classification List.
-
Click the icon to the left of the desired classification and drag it to the Parent field on the Details page.
As you begin to drag the classification, the cursor will turn to a circle with a slash through it, indicating that you are not in a location where the classification can be dropped. When the mouse is over the Parent field, the cursor will change to a square with a small plus sign inside. Let go of the cursor, and the classification will be placed in the Parent field.
-
Select a parent from the lookup:
-
Click the lookup control
to the right of the Parent field.
The Classification lookup opens.
-
Locate the parent record in the Classification hierarchy, by expanding nodes as required.
Remember, to display the parent on the right, click the node directly above the desired parent.
-
Select the desired parent from the results displayed on the right.
-
Click Apply.
The Classification lookup closes and the parent appears in the Parent field.
-
-
-
Enter an ID for the new classification in the ID field.
The ID must be unique. If you enter an ID that is already in use, you will be prompted to correct this when you attempt to save the new record.
You cannot create an asset classification with the same ID that is used for an inventory classification record.
-
Enter a more descriptive name for the classification in the Name field.
The name does not need to be unique. The Name field is the only value displayed in the Classification List.
-
Select the type of classification from the Type field.
-
Enter any model information that is common to all records using this classification.
-
Select the Active check box if this classification record should be active.
This check box is selected by default.
-
Choose between two options:
-
Select the Lock Asset Name Field check box to ensure that all assets created from this classification template use the classification name as the asset name.
The user creating the new asset will not be able to edit the asset Name field.
-

The user creating the new asset will initially see the classification name listed in the Asset Name field, but will be able to override it.

-

The user creating the new asset will not be able to edit any of these fields.

Leave the Lock All Classification Fields check box clear if you want to allow the user to edit the classification detail fields.
The user creating the new asset will see the default values, but will be able to override them.
-
-
Attach a photo to this classification record if desired.
This photo will become the default photo for all assets created using this classification.
-
Click Save.
Once the record has been saved, you can enter additional data about the classification.
